DULWICH HILL

Arlington Street

Main Period: Federation - Interwar

Leadlight apparent at

The southwestern part of Arlington Street that is in the Abergeldie Estate has, architecturally, some wonderful examples of late Californian Bungalows and this applies to their leadlight. The eastern part of Arlington Street is a mosaic of architectural styles from Federation through to more recent structures. It’s interesting that when you pass over Dixon Street and out of the Abergeldie Estate the housing changes. There are far more modifications and the density of leadlight decreases.

Arlington Street

No 2 is an early Californian bungalow (c.1920)  reminiscent of a Federation house. It has leadlight in the front door panel, sidelights and tops, in a three panel casement window on the left and in a three panel casement window on the verandah All the panels have flowers linked with a blue ribbon and bow above the central flower. The architecture has shifted towards the bungalow but the leadlight retains a distinctly late Federation feel.
