The first auction for lots on the eastern side of Ettrick Street took place on April Fool’s Day in 1922 as part of the 4th subdivision of the Goodlet Estate. The remaining lots at the south-western end of the street went up for auction two years later in 1924 as part of the 6th subdivision of the Goodlet Estate. There are many well maintained and well preserved Californian Bungalows in Ettrick street. There are also some fabulous examples of leadlight from this mid 1920’s period.

ASHBURY

Ettrick Street

While Ettrick Street is relatively long for Ashbury only about half the lots actually face the street.

Ettrick Street

No 1 is a Californian Bungalow from the mid 1920’s with leadlight in two three panel casement windows that are simply stunning! The design has a pastel blue curtain rod from which is suspended a pink ribbon with a beautiful flower in the centre panel. The design is very figurative and while there are other examples of this idea there is nothing as beautiful as this.
