Marrickville

Cavey Street

Main Period: Victorian - Federation

Leadlight apparent at No’s 11 & 13

The Marrickville Deposited Plan 776 shows that plans for Cavey Street show that subdivision of the street began in 1882. It appears that a Mr (?) Cavey owned the land because the name 'Cavey' is  shown as 'own & occ'. The street is shown as 'subdivided' on the 1893 subdivision of the Marrickville Station Estate. It appears that the street was shortened when the railway went through. There are a number of small, late Victorian cottages and some weatherboard Federation homes in this relatively short street.

This Deposited Plan 766 shows Cavey Street and it is dated 1882. The Cavey's  Paddock Estate shown can be dated at 1892.

1893 Marrickville Station Estate - Illaw

The Marrickvilled Station Estate in 1893 clearly shows the land on the south side of Cavey Street was already subdivided in 1893.

Cavey Street

No 11 is a weatherboard Federation cottage (c.1919) with leadlight in a small window on the veranda, in the front door panel, sidelight top and in the fanlight. The leadlight in the door panel is wonderfully Art Nouveau. There is some damage that could be repaired because this is a rare example of Federation leadlight in a weatherboard cottage.
