HABERFIELD

Crescent Street

Main Period: Federation - Interwar

Leadlight apparent at No’s 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 28, 29 & 30

Crescent Street has some stunning examples of leadlight. The first lots were auctioned as part of the First Subdivision of the Dobroyd Point Estate in 1909 and again six months later in 1910 offered by the Haymarket Permanent Land, Building and Investment Company. This was at the western end of the street. The eastern end of the street was offered for auction in 1913 and a few lots were auctioned in 1915. A feature of Crescent Street is the corner houses, some of which are almost breathtakingly beautiful as is their leadlight. This is one street (like many others in Haberfield) well worth a visit for multiple reasons and the houses in it are largely intact. While some of the houses would have been contemporaneous with the Stanton Subdivisions further south this particular part of Haberfield has a very different feel and look about it. No's 8, 10, 20, 28 & 29 are wonderful examples of corner house architecture and as corner houses they provided a larger space to display their leadlight.

Crescent Street

No 4 is a Californian Bungalow with leadlight in two small windows facing west and a in a four panel casement angled bay window also facing west. The diaper pattern in the leadlight is very effective. While the leadlight in the front door panel appears to be original the door itself is not where it was originally.
