HABERFIELD

Deakin Avenue

Main Period: Federation

Leadlight apparent at No’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14 & 16

Deakin Avenue was part of the 1st subdivision of Stanton’s Haberfield Estate offered for sale in 1901. It is a relatively short street with some truly beautiful houses,   many of which have retained much of their original leadlight. The houses in Deakin Avenue demonstrate one of the significant features of leadlight in homes from Federation to WW1, i.e. that is was mainly used in the front entrance to the house and there are some particularly wonderful examples of beautiful entrance leadlight in Deakin Avenue.

Deakin Avenue

No 1 is a Federation house (1908) with leadlight in the front entrance sidelights & tops and fanlight. It is difficult to see because of the garden shrubs but it is there!
