HABERFIELD

Empire Street

Main Period: Federation - Interwar

Leadlight apparent at No’s 1, 3, 7, 15, 34, 40, 45, 48, 49, 51 & 52

Empire Street was subdivided in 1905 by the Haymarket Permanent Land, Building and Investment Company. The map shown indicates that most of the lots on the eastern side of Empire Street were already sold prior this particular auction. There are some very good examples of mid-Federation leadlight in Empire Street.

Empire Street

This map in 1905 shows that most of the lots on theeastern side of Empire were already sold.

No 1 is a Californian Bungalow with leadlight in a five panel casement square bay window with fanlights and in a very large panel in the front door. The bay window is a particularly beautiful example of this style of leadlight in a bungalow though it is somewhat unusual because of the fanlights which are not all that common in bungalows because of the slightly lower ceiling height in comparison to the earlier Federation homes.
