Holden Street is a very old street in Ashfield and runs from Liverpool Road to Princess Street in Canterbury. There is almost everything in Holden Street; churches, Canterbury Boys High School, Victorian Terraces, Federation Houses and Californian Bungalows, Bethel Nursing Home, Ashfield Hotel, Ashfield Mall, office blocks, flats, boarding houses, corner shops and coffee shops, a restaurant, the Water Tower at the highest point, houses in original condition and others that have suffered through unsympathetic renovations. As the numerous subdivision notices suggest, building took place over an extended period of time in Holden Street. The leadlight styles span the period from Victorian times (1880’s) to late Interwar (1930’s). There are 40 houses in Holden Street that have retained some leadlight.

The terrace at No 18 (Late 1880's-1890’s?) is one of two terraces and is unusual because the 1st floor verandah has been enclosed with 5 double hung windows with a leadlight design that appears to be from the 1920’s. The fit of the windows indicates that they were made to fit and so was the leadlight.
