DULWICH HILL

Fairfowl Street

Main Period: Federation -

Leadlight apparent at

The name Fairfowl is somewhat unusual but there is a possible explanation. Robert Wardell was murdered in 1834. His niece, Margaret Anne Priddle, married George Fairfowl Macarthur and one of the subdivisions of Dulwich Hill was called 'Priddle's Estate'.  Fairfowl Street originally extended from Morton Avenue through to Marrickville Road. The section between Charlecot Street and Marrickville Road has been acquired by Dulwich High School, built in 1893, for their sport field.

No 1 is a rare weatherboard cottage from the early Federation period (c.1900) that has leadlight in the fan light above the front door. It is barely visible in the shadow.
