This 1876 sketch of Reids Subdivision shos the street as 'Weymes' Street

Wemyss Street runs between Addison Road and Stanmore Road. The 1876 sketch of Reid’s Subdivision shows the street as ‘Weymes’ Street. The area north of Newington Road is not in Marrickville and was developed from the 1880’s through to 1900.

The southern end of Wemyss Street appears to have been developed and redeveloped over many years from the 1870’s.  There are a large number of California bungalows reflecting the era when it was developed in the post World War 1 period.
