Taringa Street

Main Period: Victorian – Federation - Interwar

Leadlight apparent at No’s 1, 3, 4, 5 & 15

Taringa Street is a really hidden street that used to run into Alt Street. The first lots were auctioned in the late1870’s and there are a few houses from that era still in the street.

Taringa Street

No 1 is a Federation bungalow built in 1923. It has a stunning entrance with two large ovals instead of bull’s eyes. They are set in angled brickwork that leads to the front doors and the leadlight they contain has a decidedly Federation feel to it. The three panel casement window on the right has a ‘ovalate’ design emphasised with yellow textured glass that draws attention to the central panel This house has a large five panel casement window on the first floor that has double hung windows and a leadlight design that is not consistent with the designs on the ground floor. It feels like a later addition but the design and beveled ovals are consistent with the designs used in houses of this period. The side entrance door has a Victorian feel to the design used in the two arched door panels.
